Jugui and LImusishiden's Original Collections of Mongghul Folklore in Huzhu Mongghul (Tu) Autonomous County, Haidong District, Qinghai Province, PR China

In 1998, Jugui and Limusishiden used a stereo cassette recorder (SONY WM-D3) to record Mongghul folklore in Mongghul villages in Huzhu County. Most were recorded by Jugui in Qasizi (Qiazi) and Tangraa (Tangla) villages in Donggou Township, Tughuan (Tuguan) Village in Danma Town, and Qanza (Qianzuo) Village in Wushi Town. Limusishiden recorded a few selections from a teller in Jilog Village, Danma Town. Jugui and Limusishiden both visited Duwa Village, in Wushi Town; Bulog (Heiquan é»æ³) Village, in Donggou Township, and Janba (Wangjia) Village in Danma Town. In 2002 Jugui began transcribing the recorded materials. In 2005, we transferred the contents of all recorded cassette tapes onto CDs. Limusishiden and Jugui again listened to the material while reading the transcriptions. The texts in this book are thus almost exactly what we heard on the CDs.

Our previous volumes of Mongghul folklore were presented on the basis of taking notes in Mongghul as the tellers recounted the folklore and later, retelling them in the purblished versions. The folklore in this volume reflects a true oral form for we did our best to transcribe exactly what the tellers said. Furthermore, this book has selections from more than eight villages and four townships.

Certain folktales have similar content, for example, Frog Boy versions by Rnqansuu, Tayisirang, Bawogni Durijinsuu. In addition, ten versions of Stepmother are featured in this collection.

This list gives the number of the selection as arranged in this collection, the Mongghul title of each folklore selection in and the English translation of the title in italics, the teller's name, selection length in minutes, where the folklore was collected, genre (e.g., folktale, riddle, folksong, or joke), the name of the reteller (Jugui or Limusishiden), and the length of the retold selection.
