Video Lessons in Tibetan
The Tibetan Phrasebook is a phrasebook of the modern eastern Amdo dialect of the Tibetan language. The instructor's voice is that of a native speaker from Rebkong--the region widely considered to be the unofficial center of the Amdo lingua franca.
The Tibetan Phrasebook has been designed to train speaking and listening competence in Amdo Tibetan, which, in my estimation, is one of the most challenging aspects of this language. As tools abound to learn to read and write Tibetan, I've decided to exclude these aspects from this endeavor, and rather, focus on acquiring and understanding Amdo Tibetan phonemics. As such, six lessons have been crafted, from Basic to Advanced, teaching modern spoken Amdo Tibetan by way of repetition and common grammatical patterns. This Phrasebook has been principally inspired by content from "Part I" of Wang Qingshan's rare but precious 1995 book, "A Grammar of Spoken Amdo Tibetan".
